Did you know: Comedy is not recognized as its own art form in Canada? There is almost no specific
government recognition or funding for comedians.

Excited by the advocacy work being done by our friend Sandra Battaligni, and the Canadian Association of Stand-up Comedians, The Theatre Centre wants to help change that. In celebration of this commitment, we are hosting a week of comedy featuring some of the country’s best comics as the first in a series of new initiatives.

Click here for the full press release on what we’re up to, or see below for the festival line-up and to grab your tickets.

Join us for a week of comedy and join the movement declaring: COMEDY IS ART!

drop-the-mic-whats-onDrop the Mic Comedy: Joke or Choke

Drop The Mic Comedy is more like training day for comics. The popular phrase is a gesture of intentionally dropping one’s microphone at the end of a performance to signal triumph. Our goal is to make people all over the world laugh daily by pushing comics to give their absolute best performance on stage.

Drop the mic also means a performer being told by the crowd response (LOUD BOOING) to drop the mic and get the hell of the stage after a poor performance by our definition. In our opinion, a comics life is simple: JOKE or CHOKE are the only options a comic has on stage.
