Meet our new Manager of Artist & Community Activation

We’ve had an exciting start to our week yesterday, as we welcomed a new member to our team here at The Theatre Centre. We’re pretty excited for you to meet her as well. Please meet our new Manager of Artist & Community Activation, Myung-Sun Kim. We can’t wait to see what Myung-Sun brings to this position with her background and expertise, and we hope you’ll pop by to say hello.

Myung-Sun Kim is an arts programmer and an interdisciplinary artist, based in Toronto. Her past experiences in the arts range from galleries to festivals that focus on diverse and multi-disciplinary contemporary art practices and pedagogy, in visual art, theatre, film/ video, and community engagement. She has been on the programming committee at the Gendai Gallery, Inside Out Film Festival, OCAD University Gallery, and Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival. She was the Programming Coordinator at the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival from 2013 to 2014. Her shorts programming focused on the subjects of war, inter-generational trauma, and afterlives of generations following the Korean war in contemporary setting.

She has a BFA in Sculpture & Installation at the Ontario College of Art & Design (2005), and an MFA in the Visual Arts Program at York University (2009). Her current work as an artist explores the intersections between art, food, and storytelling. Most recently, she has collaborated with Artscape Gibraltar Point and Egale Youth OUTreach Program with food, drawing and storytelling projects.

She loves cook-offs, ice cream, reading and makes makgeolli (Korean fermented rice wine). You can check out her art here.

We’re pretty sure that with her intersecting interests in art, food, and community, Myung-Sun will fit right in.
