SummerWorks

Ontario’s premier festival of cutting-edge, exciting, professional theatre. SummerWorks is the breeding ground for the mainstage shows of the future and the hub for Toronto’s most dynamic, dedicated theatre professionals.

As the largest juried festival in Canada featuring predominantly New Canadian plays, SummerWorks looks to program a festival that uniquely reflects Toronto and Canada’s cultural zeitgeist.

This year The Theatre Centre and SummerWorks are joining forces to make a massive, exciting SummerWorks Festival Hub!

The Hub will consist of three parts:

1. THE CENTRAL BOX OFFICE

Open every day between August 7-17 from 10:00am-7:00pm. Located in the lobby of The Theatre Centre.

Come by anytime to buy tickets, pick up passes or ask questions during the Festival.

2. THE PARTIES

OPENING NIGHT PARTY
SummerWorks kicks off the Festival with another art party, this year it’s in our very own theatre. Join us for a night of debauchery as we fill the new home with music, dance, performance + all around revelry. Featuring multiple music, live art and dance performances thoughout the night. Food by Insomnia.

3. THE SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS

ART ON THE BALLOT / A REVERSE MAYORAL DEBATE
With the municipal election right around the corner, SummerWorks and ArtsVote Toronto offer a policy hack for prospective mayors. Listen in as leaders in the arts and design community debate the function and value of the arts in Toronto, responding to questions posed by the candidates who want to represent you at City Hall.

THE CONVERSATIONS
In our continued desire to promote investigation through performance, we have programmed a series of public conversations that ask SummerWorks 2014 artists to engage in discussion around elements of performance practice.

We have invited a group of prolific performance makers to curate these individual conversations by choosing a topic they want to talk about and a group of artists they want to talk with. All conversations are open to the public, who are invited to listen or participate and come and go as they please.
