we are not afraid of the dark
we are not afraid of the dark is an intensely intimate one-woman/two-ghost show by an acclaimed Belgian theatre director Tine Van Aerschot, inspired by the late actor Tracy Wright. Based on conversations between Tine and Tracy at the time of Tracy’s battle with cancer, along with literary and documentary accounts of survival in harsh conditions, we are not afraid of the dark is a somewhat unusual guide to dealing with fear and an attempt to understand our transient lives.
There is no story that can be told so beautiful and so sad as the story of death. It is the saddest most wonderful story in the world and when it is told right, it is the most humble, the most joyous, the most honest celebration of life.
There is no story that can be told so horrible and cold as the story of death. It is the coldest most awful story in the world and when it is told right, it is the most gruesome, the most terrifying, the most honest condemnation of life.
“Here and there, every now and then, you find those little moments of near-understanding. That kind of sublime instance when, just for a fleeting moment, you think you come close to understanding how the greater good works. And then, just as quickly as it comes, it disappears again, quickly, quietly, almost shyly. It is at the crossroads of all these stories that the magic is created.” – Tine Van Aerschot
