Straight from the 56th Venice Biennale is Erika Batdorf’s latest piece Burnish
A live, abstract jukebox, this performance installation invites the audience to choose elements that affect an ever-changing loop integrating music, digital technology, poetic text, art objects, movement and singing. In a self-contained mini theatre, the artist, attached to bio-sensors, attempts to maintain a deeply authentic process that is altered by every interaction. What she says, sings, gives you, and how she moves is all in response to what you chose. The audience can witness the performer through a variety of instruments while one person at a time influences her choices.
Located in the Upper Lobby/Gallery. Stay 5 minutes, stay 30… If you ‘play’, one full loop is approximately 15-18 minutes long.
