Art Nomade @ FADO
FADO Performance Art Centre is pleased to be partnering with Art Nomade International Meeting of Performance Art of Chicoutimi to present four of the festival’s artists in Toronto. Founded in 2007, Art Nomade takes place once every two years in Saguenay, Quebec. Curated by Francis O’Shanghnessy, Art Nomade 4th edition also serves as a networking platform that works with partner organizations to present invited artists in regional and provincial artist-run centers, galleries and museums. The 4th edition of Art Nomade takes place from October 1-31, 2013.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Henri-Louis Chalem (Quebec) is a multidisciplinary artist and cultural worker. His work spans many different media, including video, music, installation and performance. A fervent promoter of art in public space, his work is based on reflections on the social function of art. His work has been presented in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Croatia, Cuba, France, Mexico, Morocco, Poland, Quebec, Romania, Taiwan, and Uruguay.
Mathieu Bohet (Paris) often uses video in his performance work as a strategy to play with the boundaries of fiction and reality. His actions are engaged with social or political concepts that address the psychology around archetypal figures. In addition to his personal practice, he has developed several projects with the Action Group ESOC, and he is the co-founder of the association Sinberifora (Valencia) which aims to promote action art.
Lynn Lu (Singapore) is Associate Lecturer at Chelsea College of Art and Design (University of the Arts London) and Southampton Solent University, and curator of live art events at Solent each semester. Lynn Lu’s current research looks at the connection between experiential knowledge and the innate human capacity for empathy. Her work has been presented in the United States, Singapore, Japan, China, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Australia, New Zealand, UK, France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Poland, Belarus, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Turkey, Greece, Argentina, and Canada.
Danny Gaudreault‘s (Montreal) work investigates his specific relationship with an object’s personnal and symbolic association. Gaudreault’s performances have been presented in galleries within the context of special events and festivals, as well as in unconventional urban spaces. He is a member of the artistic committee for Le Péristyle Nomade for which he curated performance events in 2010 and 2011.
ABOUT FADO
Established in 1993, FADO Performance Inc. (Performance Art Centre) is a not-for-profit artist-run centre for performance art based in Toronto, Canada. FADO exists to provide a stable, ongoing, supportive forum for creating and presenting performance art. Currently, we are the only artist-run centre in English Canada devoted specifically to this form. We present the work of local, national and international artists who have chosen performance art as a primary medium to create and communicate provocative new images and new perspectives. Thanks to the Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council, Toronto Arts Council and the Department of Canadian Heritage for their on-going support of our activities.
