Connections is a one-act musical that explores themes of family, identity, and resilience through the lens of chance encounters at an airport. The story follows Hallie, a high school student grappling with her family’s impending move; Alex, a perfectionist vlogger questioning her engagement; and Andie, a high-powered lawyer estranged from her family. When a storm grounds their flights, these strangers must confront their personal challenges together. By the end of their shared journey, each character has grown and gained new insights into themselves and their relationships, leaving audiences with a profound sense of hope and joy.
This newly presented musical by Toronto playwright Shreya Jha (The Last Piece, Hart House Theatre; 18 Palace Road, Sheridan First Drafts with Factory Theatre, Statistics & Two Left Feet, Toronto Fringe) is another moving story accompanied by roasting orchestrations. Presented with a newly structured ensemble and live band, Connections is a show you don’t want to miss!
Helmed by an exciting young team of Toronto based artists, the show features direction by Jessica Wang, assisted by Ryan Davy (various TYT productions). The music is elevated by Music Director Erin Yip, assisted by Andrew Lowe with additional orchestrations by Quinton Naughton (SmallbutMighty Productions). Riveting choreography is added to the show by Vedika Jha. Design is elevated by newly Dora awarding winning Lighting Designer Niall Durcan (Spelling Bee, Shifting Ground Collective; Various Productions, Bowtie Productions), and Quỳnh Diep (Various Productions, Bowtie Productions, Toronto Fringe Festival; The Calling, Makeshift Collective) adds with their skillset in Production Design. Skye Anderson helms Sound System Design and Audio Engineering. Kiera Doerksen Smith (Evil Dead, Starvox Entertainment; Stranger Sings, Mansfield Entertainment; 39 Steps, Guild Festival Theatre) expertly rounds out the team in Stage Management.
Connections is a heart warming show that welcomes audiences of all ages to the theatre for a night of moving performance and enchanting music.
