Memoirs

by Doris Purchase

Free Exhibition

Emanating from my “Dim the Lights” exhibition at Propeller Art Gallery, just across the park from the Theatre Centre—this exhibition unfolds like a quiet encore. It is a meditation on memory and happenstance, on the serendipitous ways life circles back to where it began.
Years ago, a behind-the-scenes experience at a theatre in Oakville with my sister, first stirred a fascination with the mechanics that occur behind the scenes. That moment became a seed: a curiosity about the parallels between the stage and the studio, between performance and process, between what is seen and what is hidden.

In this body of work, miniature “theatres” emerge as vessels for memory and meaning. Each piece illuminates, similar to a ghost light on an empty stage. Whether to ward off ghosts or to allow them space to dance, the light remains, offering both guidance and grace in the quiet hours of creation.
This exhibition is a full circle illuminated by the delicate, serendipitous threads that bind memory, art, and the unseen stories that linger in the dark.
