Interweaving personal narratives, current philosophy and group action, HAMMER offers humorous and thoughtful suggestions for how we might transform rage and complacency. Cathy leads the audience through a shared experience that intimately questions concepts of truth, liberation and interconnectedness. The audience starts at safe distance and then slowly succumbs to a final act of trust.

The most recent full-length iteration of HAMMER was presented this past fall at the Experimentica Festival at Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff, Wales; an edited version was created for the PushOFF showcase in Vancouver last month.

ABOUT CATHY GORDON:
Cathy has created over fifty original pieces from one minute to twelve hours. She has buried herself in earth, crawled across Toronto, created choreographies on beaches, in traffic, on cars, on rooftops and indoors too. Since her seminal, ON MY KNEES – a public divorce ceremony (2007), her work has encompassed the “social” vibrating between two approaches to performance: theatre and live art. Named an “insurgent” by NOW Magazine, she tackles difficult subjects in unusual ways.

Cathy is the winner of the Ken McDougall Emerging Director Award and a Harold for her contribution to the Independent Theatre community.
